In this week's edition of New Music Friday, several projects were released. These included debut albums from emerging talents in the industry, a long-awaited release from artists who have been silent for some time, and a surprise drop.


Sizwe Alakine - Audio 2D: Dear Darkie

After achieving great success in the Amapiano music scene and securing the top spot on the charts with ---, Sizwe Alakine's talent as a songwriter has been acknowledged on various hit records. The anticipation for a new album from the hip hop artist formerly known as Reason has been palpable. Despite undergoing a name change from Reason to Sizwe Alakine, there were doubts about how the music industry would receive his new music, especially considering the change in sound. However, the time has come for the release of Sizwe Alakine's rap album. Titled "Audio2D: Dear Darkie," this marks Reason's eighth studio project, his first rap album under the new name, and his first release since 2018's "Azania." Embracing a more local and vernacular style, the album showcases a diverse sound that highlights his skills as a seasoned industry veteran. Featuring a mix of emerging talents and established artists like Espiquet, Southside Mohammed, Bellinda Chester, Infektist, among others, the project promises to be a compelling musical experience.


A Reece - Kill The King: the Mixtape

Slimes were pleasantly surprised by the unexpected release of A-Reece's latest mixtape, "Kill The King". Known for having one of the finest discographies in South African hip hop, KTK stands out as a remarkable piece of work characterized by meticulous songwriting and craftsmanship. This project falls under Revenge Club Record, a label founded by A-Reece, Jay Jody TKay 10 Staxx, who also contributes to the mixtape. Featuring a lineup of in-house producers that A-Reece has been collaborating closely with since parting ways with Mashbeatz, "Kill The King" is executive produced by Micheal Tuohy, showcasing a strong bond between him and A-Reece akin to the relationships the artist has fostered with other producers in the past. The mixtape includes guest appearances by Ginger Trill, Blue Pappi, Slim Dumpie, as well as A-Reece's siblings Jay Jody and Kid Kaydence.


Usimamane - 20th: Days Before Mauf

The highly anticipated first album by Usimamane, a rapper born in Umlazi, Durban, has been delayed several times, but it has finally arrived. Titled "20th: Days Before Mauf," the album is set to offer an engaging audio experience. Usimamane has garnered support from various industry veterans right from the start, and the album features collaborations with artists such as K.O, Anatii, YoungstaCPT, Sjava, and Okmalumkoolkat, among others. His sources of inspiration can be traced back to these established artists as well as his industry colleagues like Tony Daimane and Caseklowzed who are also on the project.


Zadok - Perspective: BLACK

Renowned for his exceptional work on major musical projects in South Africa and globally, Zadok has established himself as a prominent figure in the music industry. With a larger-than-life persona, Zadok's talents as a songwriter and record producer have garnered widespread acclaim and recognition. His latest milestone comes in the form of his debut album, Perspective: BLACK, a project that showcases his creative vision and musical prowess. Through this album, Zadok invites listeners on a journey through his unique perspective, blending influences from his South African roots with global sounds to create a captivating musical experience. Zri - Forever, Green In Me

Having already set a high bar earlier this year with the exceptional release of THANK GOD FOR THE SUN, ZRi is clearly on a mission to solidify his presence in the music industry and leave a lasting impact. With the year progressing towards its final months, he continues to showcase his artistry and dedication by unveiling his latest project, Forever, Green In Me. This new album not only demonstrates ZRi's consistent work ethic but also his commitment to evolving as an artist and exploring new creative avenues. Through this musical endeavor, ZRi aims to captivate audiences with his unique sound and thought-provoking lyrics, further establishing himself as a noteworthy figure in the contemporary music scene.


Loatinova Poundz - Church On Sundayz

Ahead of the highly anticipated release of his first album, Loatinova Poundz has been tirelessly dedicated to honing his craft and creating a series of successful tracks that have captivated audiences worldwide. His latest single, "Chuch On Sundayz," not only demonstrates his musical prowess but also showcases his ability to collaborate with other talented artists such as G-TECH 2bit, Thato Saul, and Tongue-Fu Senseii, further solidifying his position in the music industry. With the release of three singles already under his belt, Loatinova Poundz has built significant momentum leading up to the launch of his debut album, scheduled to hit the music scene on September 20th. Fans and critics alike are eagerly awaiting the album's release, anticipating a diverse and dynamic collection of tracks that will undoubtedly showcase Loatinova Poundz's versatility as an artist.
