While we are fast approaching the end of the third quarter in music, there are a lot of projects that have dropped throughout the year. While some of them might not have gained the notoriety they deserved, this does not take away from the fact that they are Good projects. Let's take a look at some of them.




Quickfass Cass - Rookie Of The Year

Date – 17 July 2020

Appearances – PRO,Emtee,Stogie T, PB$, Lu, Ashes and J Prez

Rate: 4/5

In partnership with Prime, Quickfass Cass has had a new mixtape out and it is being received well in the streets. The season 1 contestant of VuzuHustle is known for his creative lyricism and bravado. This is something he consistently showcases on the project alongside some powerhouses such as Emtee, Stogie T, and the late PRO. Overall, this is an impressive project.

Lee-Roy– Backwoods: Blueprints to a Mixtape   

Date – 15 July 2020

Rate: 4.5/5    

If there is anything one has to admire about Lee, is his consistency and showing niggas what time it is when it comes to rapping. This project is exactly that – Ima show you niggas what time it is if you want to dance. With jus under 20 minutes of music, this project was relatively quick to listen but most importantly is the replay value the project has.

Ginger Trill – From Potch With Love

Rate: 4.5/5  

It has been a year of since his last installment - PIF-, the phenomenal wordsmith is back with a full-length project. Praised by many for his lyrical ability, Ginger Trill showcases the rapping ability he has while the music is as sonically consistent on ‘From Potch with Love’. With only one feature in K-Tasso, Trill’s presence is felt throughout the project.

Dee Xclsv – G – Park Genius.

Date – 7 August 2020

Rate: 4/5

This was a relatively short project that was easy to listen to and enjoy. 5 Songs where the G-Park native showcases his skill and talent in the rawest form of mid-tempo rap instrumentals. Storytelling is one of the boxes that Dee ticks in his rapping ability, and on the song 'August 15th’, he does a phenomenal job at that.

Caxton – Tell Da Kidz About Me

Rate: 3/5  

Caxton continues to add on to what looks to be an extensive catalogue. His versatility is commendable, and this project showcases his ability to trap with the kids – Hence the title ‘Tell Da Kidz About Me’. The growth is evident in the music. There is more maturity, development in flair, and delivery even when he is going toe to toe with the new kids on the block.

Malachi – Wicked Romance

Malachi is another one of the new age alternative R&B acts whose music is melody-driven and sings to soft, 808 infused R&B beats. This is his debut solo project and has no guest appearances. Nonetheless, this is a phenomenal project that ticks all the boxes that an R&B project should have in singing, signwriting ability, delivery, and vocal presence.

TenThousandX – Mixed Emotions

Rate: 3.5/5  

TenThousandX is a new alternative R&B artist from Bloemfontein who showcases raw and uncut emotions on his songs. One can tell that some of his influences derive from the new age of R&B that is prevalent in the music industry currently. This 8 song project displays his versatility not just as a singer and a songwriter, but his flow, delivery, and rapping ability.
