As we transition into the third quarter of the year, the arrival of the first week of August heralds a wave of anticipation and excitement within the hip hop music scene.
In some of the drops that we got in the first week, we heard a return from artists that we haven't heard from in a while and fresh new music from the new kids on the block who have been making a lot of noise. Here is a look at some of the music that dropped this week:
Emtee - Believer
While he has been making casual appearances on other people's records, The Hustler, Emtee, is back with a single titled Believer. This serves as his second release for the year 2024 after the song Good Times was released early in the year.
Kain Kid - War ft. Tyson Sybateli & Priddy Ugly
Kane Keid, known for his impressive freestyles on social media, has gained popularity among hip-hop fans. His engaging rhymes have attracted attention from celebrities and he has now finally dropped the highly anticipated single titled "War" featuring Priddy Ugly and Tyson Sybateli.
SimulationRxps- Based On iWaar
Hailing all the way from Kwalanga, Cape Town, SimulationRxps, the rapper, has made a significant impact on the music scene with a unique blend of contemporary sounds and Kwaito funk, a genre beloved by South Africans. By incorporating his cultural roots through rapping in isiXhosa, SimulationRxps brings a much-needed breath of fresh air to South African hip hop. He recently released a four-track EP titled Based On iWaar, which includes collaborations with K.Keed and LOOKATUPS.
Asvnte - Umsindo ft Kiddo CSA
Asvnte returns with his second release of the year, presenting the single "Umsindo" featuring Kiddo CSA. This track has a faster tempo than his previous single, which featured Marcus Harvey and Loki and had a more laid-back vibe. Nevertheless, "Umsindo" is still an incredible song.
YoungstaCPT - Slim Young
Capetonian lyricist YoungstaCPT has once again graced us with his musical prowess, this time with his latest record titled "Slim Young." In this new release, he skillfully navigates through the corridors of nostalgia. Through his introspective and evocative lyrics, YoungstaCPT paints a vivid portrait of the type of individual he was during his school days, shedding light on the experiences and influences that have shaped his identity and artistry.
